Anti-Poverty & Disability Advocate

I am an advocate for the poor and people with disabilities. I also serve as co-chair of the Winnipeg Transit Riders Association (WTRA). Since January 2010, I have been writing a monthly commentary in the Winnipeg Sun on poverty and disability related issues. I care deeply about my community! For the last 25 years, I have worked with various groups and individuals who've been marginalized by society. My passion has been assisting some of our poorest and most vulnerable citizens to live in our community. I believe that all people living with a disability, regardless of its type or severity, can live in the community when they are receiving all of the necessary supports and services that they need. I also believe in empowering individuals to participate in society as "responsible citizens" and not merely as taxpayers. My Mission Statement is: "I will be a champion for positive social change in my community, which results in the inclusion and full-citizenship of all Manitobans." We are all stakeholders when it comes to ending poverty and homelessness in Manitoba. I believe that no one should have to live on our city's streets! Our goal isn't just to support homeless employment programs, but also to bring about an end to homelessness. As an advocate, I am proud to once again participate in the CEO Sleepout. It deserves your support too!
